Resources for World Travelers
![]() | Memoirs of a Gaijin by Hunter Nuttall (75 page PDF, free). Download it.
"Gaijin" is a Japanese word meaning "outsider." It often refers specifically to a white person, and is now considered politically incorrect. But it's certainly what I was when I visited Kyoto. I wrote this ebook to tell a story of Japan as seen through the eyes of an American tourist. Read Memoirs of a Gaijin and see Japan as you've never seen it before. |

ING DIRECT (no review yet) - Save Your Money! (Not an affiliate link but I am an affiliate—ask me to send you a referral email so you can get a $25 welcome bonus. You must sign up through the link in the email to get your $25 bonus.) Visit their site.
When it made its U.S. debut in 2000, this virtual bank offered the highest savings rate in the country, 6.5% APY. Since then, its savings rates have remained near the top, with no service charges or minimum balance requirements. I opened an account with $500 in 2000 just to try them out, and now I have most of my cash there. You link your ING account to your brick and mortar bank account so you can easily transfer money between your banks.
Vanguard (no review yet) - Mutual funds, IRAs, ETFs, 401(k) plans, and more. Visit their site.
Most mutual fund companies have to make a profit for both the company owners and the fund investors. Do you see a conflict of interest here? Vanguard has no stockholders—the company is owned by the people who invest in its funds. They created the world's first index fund for individual investors in 1976, and they're now the world's largest pure no-load mutual fund company.
Classic Success Books
The Science of Getting Rich by Wallace D. Wattles (52 page PDF, free). Download it.
Wallace Wattles' 1910 classic that inspired Rhonda Byrne's The Secret. Very similar to The Secret, but with emphasis on taking action as opposed to just waiting for the universe to provide. NOTE: This copy contains a number of advertising links. I haven't researched them, and I have no recommendation either for or against them.
The Science of Being Well by Wallace D. Wattles (62 page PDF, free). Download it.
The second book in Wattles' 3-part series describes how anyone can be healthy using positive thinking in combination with proper eating, drinking, breathing, and sleeping. Unfortunately, this copy is riddled with distracting typos. You should read The Science of Getting Rich first to learn about the law of attraction. NOTE: This copy contains a number of advertising links. I haven't researched them, and I have no recommendation either for or against them.
The Science of Being Great by Wallace D. Wattles (48 page PDF, free). Download it.
The final book in Wattles' 3-part series reveals how anyone can become great. This one puts relatively little emphasis on the law of attraction, and is much more religious (or sacrilegious, depending on your point of view). Possibly the best of the three, although not as easy to read as the others. NOTE: This copy contains a number of advertising links. I haven't researched them, and I have no recommendation either for or against them.
