I was stunned. "Are you serious? The Bible actually says this? So many people have studied, feared, and tried to predict Armageddon for two thousand years. And you're saying that the Bible actually tells us that Nero is the one who will return to form the Unholy Trinity, creating hell on Earth until the Messiah returns to fight him?"

"It's pretty mind blowing, isn't it?" Tuck's grin showed that he must have reacted the same way I did when he first learned this. "But hold on there, because it's not so simple. The Book of Revelation may have a typo."

"A typo? This is supposed to be the undisputed word of God, and it has a typo?"

"Maybe. Remember what I was saying about how I don't like it when history forgets? This is a case where I'd sure like it to be able to remember. We're not sure what the number of the beast is. It might not be 666."

This didn't sound right to me at all. "Come on now," I said, "I'm no Bible scholar, but I've been hearing 666 all my life. I've never heard of anything else proposed as the number of the beast."

"Well, no, you wouldn't have," Tuck said, "at least not until 2005. There have always been copies of the Bible that said the number of the beast was 616, but they were always considered to be scribal errors. That's because all the oldest, most trusted copies said 666, and the ones saying 616 were thought to be wrong. With everyone making copies by hand, an error is bound to be made every now and then."
