@ Akemi, yeah, some types of jobs are much more exportable than others. I know some software developers who have been concerned about this, because companies can export these jobs for a third of the cost. But then they take a gamble with the results, which are sometimes good but often very bad. This doesn't seem like such a big threat if they can find good results in the U.S.

I don't think Jason is a jerk for writing or doing what he did. He could have just fired the guy instead of helping him find a better fit. Startups just seem to be a different world, where three stars doesn't cut it.

Jobs get exported because they are exportable jobs, not because the current personnel on the job is average. There is nothing personal about this.

So there are exportable jobs and un-exportable jobs. This is the critical difference of jobs now. Whereas 20 years ago, the required education level or the employers' size were the critical consideration of career choice, now you need to think if the job of your choice is exportable or not.

This doesn't necessarily mean you should never aspire to become an accountant, for example. Even though many such positions will be moved to India in the near future, there still will be some accountants in 2050 USA.

However, if you dare to choose one of the exportable careers in your life, you might want to be smart and figure out how to make yours un-exportalbe. Hint: If you are a self-employed accounting consultant, your job cannot be exported without your own consent. (Bonus of this choice: You don't get pushed around by a jerk like the one who wrote the mentioned article. I haven't read the original post - no desire - but I know there are people who use fear tactics to manipulate others)

Globalization is not a bad thing. While many jobs get moved around across the borders, we can also find customers all over the world.

Oh right, so there's a name for it. And there's me thinking I was just "Jill of all trades, master of none". I know a lot of things, and I am interested in and do a lot of things, but I wouldn't say I'm outstanding in any of them ... except maybe procrastination. Which is a shame, because if I was particularly good at ONE thing, I could focus on that, rather than being perfectly decent at a lot of different things and not knowing what I'm supposed to be doing.

Anyway, thanks for clearing that up, I feel better now, and cheers for the ebook, am reading it now and finding it very interesting. :)

In the summer months I walk around barefoot a lot and it's so much more pleasant than wearing shoes! You and your feet have to get used to it, though.
