@ Luciano, GEB is my favorite book! It’s probably about time that I reread it. Definitely not for everyone, I agree – he even had to write another book, “I Am a Strange Loop,” to explain why many people misunderstood GEB. Glad to see that you’re into it too. And yeah, the xkcd guy did a great job with that one.

You probably already know about this, but I HAVE to mention Gödel, Escher, Bach nonetheless. Have read it?

It’s probably the best book I’ve ever read, but it’s definitely not for everyone — although probably a perfect fit for you…

Thanks for the excellent food for thought in this post, Hunter! I loved the way you developed it.

I don’t mind the technical stuff at all. I think it’s good you can point out the illusionary nature of reality with the technical stuff. Maybe some people understand it better with this explanation, and I cannot write this type of post.

@ Akemi, maybe we don’t really need to breathe. Sure, if we didn’t, this illusion would end. But just like waking up from a dream, the end of one simulation doesn’t mean the end of everything.

…or, do you really need to breathe?
Does the “reality” that we so firmly believe to exist outside of ourselves really exist?

I don’t understand the technical part of this post, but this is something I’ve been thinking. Thank you for writing it from a different angle with your analytical strength.
