Tomorrow, the U.S. will trade in its white, right-handed, ESTJ, Republican president for a black, left-handed, INFP, Democratic president. This will be interesting.
With apologies to your blog…..”duh.” Of course they are different, as is every new President from every previous. I only hope (perhaps mistakenly) that the hysteria – yes hysteria – surrounding Obama’s slection will shortly subside. While not a Obama supporter, I can certainly understand the enthusiasm generated around his election as the first African-American to make it to this high and important office. Sadly, it is so far beyond this that any hope of objective reporting of his administration may be lost. Let’s celebrate the moment but not make an issue of the obvious.
Hopefully the difference will motivate the American (or even world) public with a sense of (false) safety and security such that they begin spending and the economy rebounds. Realistically though I’m with Jarold, enough is enough, i’s over and lets see what happens.
@ Winnie, Bush is definitely an ESTJ, but people are actually still divided about Obama’s type. However, INFP seems to have the best supporting evidence. Glad you enjoy having that in common with him.
@ Jarold, um, yeah, we all know they’re obviously different (perhaps you missed the sarcasm in the title). My point is just that they’re very different, more than any other consecutive presidents I can think of. Though come to think of it, the first Bush and Clinton were also consecutive presidents with opposite Myers-Briggs types. However, I agree that no president can instantly solve all of America’s problems. (You didn’t actually say that, but I assume that’s what you’re thinking.)
@ Jason, I always lose track of whether spending or saving is supposed to be better for the economy. The last I heard, we spent our way into the recession, and now we’re supposed to spend our way out of it. But I don’t think enough is enough at this point. The guy’s not even in office yet! I’d expect more hysteria for a while.
@ Evelyn, OK, I’ll be watching it with you, just from the other side of the world!
I certainly have no idea about their Myers-Briggs types but I cannot image how Ford to Carter or Carter to Reagan could not have also seen some fairly stark differences. Perhaps some of the sarcasm was lost, which for me is hard to believe for I tend to be a rather sarcastic type, but it’s possibly lost in all the focus on this one individual in the body of a (any) president that is most troubling. I certainly do believe that “one” person can solve many of our problems and that is the cummulative strength of the one – each of us taking ownership for our choices and their consequences. That would be a headline that would be different – “American citizens (including their politicians) own up to stupid choices and agree to accept their consequences.” Now the President who could get us to that place would truly be transformational in a real and substantive, and not symbolic, way. That would be “Change to Believe In.”
Today once again we had someone get up and give a good speech, but speeches don’t feed your family or give you a job or save your house or keep us from the butt end of the jokes around the world or much of anything else. They’re just speeches, my god we’ve heard enough of them the last two years. It can only leave you a little fuzzy inside for awhile.
Now that Obama has talked the walk he has sit in the big chair and walk the talk. Now we will find out if all the BS being spouted during the election was to just get elected or does he has a magic hat that he is going to pull the impossible makeover out of.
The left now wants everyone to pull together and be bi –partisan to get all this done. I have a question for them “Where we they the last 8 years?”
I’ll give Obama the benefit of the doubt for now. But as I have said before Talk is cheap we all do it and some just do it better than others, Obama is one of those. The question is “Can he continue to inspire a nation to do what has to be done be it not necessarily by his vision. I just hope that he’s looking down the trail far enough that he can see all the unintended consequences of his soon to be actions or in actions and steer us around or through them.
If you go back and really understand his past you may be able understand our future. It’s east to stand on the out side and throw rocks., but now your in that glass house.
My only question for Obama would be “If what you do dosen’t work and we sink further in to the muck, who are you going to blame?” or will you stand up like a real man and tell the world that the Buck stops here. But then that’s not very Democrat of you….. is it?
Listening to the CBS inaugural telecast, one of the talking heads said that when Bush took over in 2001, he attempted to reach across party lines. The talking head went on to say that someone said to him, “you will learn that this is a partisan town.” The talking head did not mention the name of the person saying this but I wonder if it was a Democrat after the contentious situation that was the 2000 election. That said, I wonder if he took that as though it was a barrier that would be useless to work against and changed course to a sort of “screw it, I’ll do it my way then!” sort of thinking. Again, I’m imagining here…I have no idea if that’s what he did. I voted for Gore and I voted for Obama. I like John McCain, I just didn’t think he was the right person for right now. My main concern is that the idea of party first is more important than the good of the country first, if I can borrow from McCain’s slogan. To me, being so adamant that your party wins vs. what is right for the country and it’s citizens is Un-American! I’m hoping we’re at the dawn of a new era in Wasington, as much as I know that sounds naive. I guess I’m just being my optimistic self. Best wishes to all of us throughout the world!

Kinda nice to share the same personality type with the American president. And yes, it will definitely be interesting.
