First off, just wanted to say you have a great blog and great insight. But with regards to discussion above, I think we're missing the point. Ferriss' book is titled to catch attention, but nowhere does he guarantee that everyone would - or should - achieve a 4-hour work week.

The big point is that the barriers to starting an automated business online are much lower now, and Tim provides the tools and case studies in his books (old and updated revision) to help people realize that creating a profitable "muse" isn't all that impossible. In fact, on his website you can now attest to dozens of successful "muses" created out of 4HWW philosophy that make anywhere from 2500 - 10,000+ a month. I went to a recent Meetup.com meetup for 4HWW'ers in San Diego, and the businesses (WebHeat.com) that were started as a result of Tim Ferriss' guiding principles were phenomenal.

What's so refreshing about Ferriss' book is that he offers content and advice that is immediately actionable - I've read dozens of business and entrepreneur-oriented books which are comprised of vague generalizations about "the power of thinking positive", "the law of attraction," or jargon such as "leverage social media to increase your business." Tim Ferriss instead lays out a blueprint - albeit a rough one - about how to create an actual online business from the ground up. I admit, I am a Ferriss fanboy and totally ate up 4-Hour Body, but because of that I'm closer to a six-pack than I ever have been.

Anyway, glad to have discovered your blog. =]

[...] There are a lot of free personal development ebooks out there, and thanks to Peter Clemens at The Change blog, they can now all be found in one handy list (which includes my own Clutter 101 ebook). Highlight’s include Leo Babauta’s look at how to simplify in the tough economy, and another on how to apply the Four Hour Work Week principles to blogging. [...]

@ Stephen, that sounds like a great situation. I don't think the goal should be to do nothing, but to be free to do what you want. So even if you work a lot of hours, what matters is that you love it.

Thanks for the article at Ittybiz, and for pointing me to this e-book. I have been a "pro-blogger" since 1 Nov 2008, and I haven't seen any 6-figure checks either. But my lovely bride and I had a very nice trip from Maine to Wisconsin, down to Nashville and back over to Hilton Head, SC. 7,000 miles in 4 months on the road.

You can get away from the 9-to-5, but now my life is more like a series of split-shifts from 6(am)-to-8(pm), six days a week. And I love it.

<abbr><em>@Stephen´s last blog post..<a href="http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/spswords/~3/SuZ5ceXu-88/" rel="nofollow">Social Media Strategy - Increased Relevant Visitor Traffic</a></abbr></em>

[...] Even when you decide to pursue a single medium sized bunny, you’ll still find yourself chasing an army of elusive fugitive microbunnies day by day. Should you write that guest post, answer that email, work on that new product, spend some time on Twitter, go commenting all over the place, or what? (I wrote about this dilemma in my free ebook Why We’re Failing The 4-Hour Workweek.) [...]

@ Carla, good, I'm glad you'll have some reading material to keep you busy! It's ironic, isn't it? In order to not work so much, we first have to work very hard to put something in place. It's hard, but yes, it can happen.

I am going to be traveling starting tomorrow and will have plenty of time to read your eBook.

I also think people give up because it takes a lot of work to not to work as much. For me, (and a lot of other people) my challenge is my full-time job, but I think with planning and being more organized, it can happen.

@ Barbara, Tim says in 4HWW that boredom is a common problem of the "new rich" (people who only have to work 4 hours a week). They don't know what to do with the time, so they're terribly bored. He says the goal isn't to do nothing, but to fill your time with whatever excites you. I don't think I'd ever have the problem of not being able to think of something to do!
