I Can Has Digg?

My Automatic Blog Post Rehasher is getting some attention on Digg. An active Digg user told me that it’s front page material. Are you kidding me?
Like any small blogger, I’ve always wanted a shot at hitting the Digg front page. At first I wasn’t sure how I felt about doing it with a joke post, but I figure if it makes people laugh, then it’s doing some good.
So go Digg it if you’re a Digger. But keep in mind that by doing so, you’re encouraging more stuff from the dark side.
For example, an ebook titled “How To Sell Overpriced Ebooks,” selling for $1,000. It’s only one page, but its affiliate program pays 90%.
Yes, I’m giving mixed signals. Social media is a harsh mistress.
By the way, how do you know when one of your posts has been Dugg or Stumbled, other than someone telling you, or just randomly checking?

Hi Hunter,
Can you imagine? With the quality of your writings, I would think some of your other posts would make front page, but I’m guessing active Diggers aren’t looking for good content, as much as they’re looking for something original.
Good luck…keep us all posted.
I’m on my way to “Digg” it.

Hi Hunter - on my last check you had 24 Diggs, which is pretty amazing. I don’t know how you check how many stumbles you have aside from random checking. I’ve read about different easy ways of checking but they don’t sound any easier than just checking manually. Also, I think there is some software you can get to check these things, but I’ve lost the URL.
Seriously - some folks would use your software rehasher to create content. I’ve seen similar things advertised and people will actually pay for them - steal a dozen articles and use the same article over and over in rehashed format. Some use them on sites and I think other people even use them for article marketing.

It seems to have stalled at 24 diggs. It’s interesting that it was going up pretty fast in the middle of the night, then stopped during normal waking hours (in the U.S.).
@ Barbara, I’m not too familiar with Digg so I’m not sure what they’re looking for, but it turns out that “Odd Stuff” is a category.
@ Catherine, let me know if you actually see people using it! It’s got to be against AdSense policy to have keywords without readable content, and I have to wonder about its value in article marketing. But the sad thing is, it wouldn’t surprise me that much if someone really did use it. BTW, your Digg profile says “A male from Great Britain!”

Hunter, it might have been a joke article, but it’s a unique creation. People digg on something different and fresh.
Since you already use feedburner, the easiest thing for checking on digg & stumbled arcticles is using their web stats feature. It will show you how much traffic each is sending and to which article. The FeedFlare also allows you to embed code that shows the number of stumbles, diggs, and other social bookmarking stats for each article.

Sterling, I’ve seen blogs that showed the social media stats, but I didn’t know how they did it. I checked the source code of one blog today and saw a reference to a feedburner script, so I guess that’s the FeedFlare thing you’re talking about. I think I’m going to use that. I’ll check out their web stats feature as well.

Hunter, the stats are helpful, but Google Analytics is even better (and still free).
Nick at PutThingsOff.com was the guru that told me how to use FeedFlare to display social media counts.

Sterling, PutThingsOff.com looks interesting, so I’m checking it out. I recognize the name Nick Cernis–I think I’ve seen him commenting on a few blogs. And I see that you advertise there, so you must like it!
