@ monko and @ Joe, I think you might have missed the sarcasm here. Follow the link at the top to see the first post in the series, and compare.

@ downtown, that's a subset of #1. Income is income, whether in the form of salary, 401(k) match, bonuses, or whatever. And yes, that's definitely one of the top reasons to have a job.

@ Jeff, thanks!

These are the lamest arguments for having a job that I've ever read. I'm so dumbfounded by these that I think they can only be a joke of some sort.

I'd say one of the top 10 reasons to have a job is to be prepared for retirement.

Surprised it's not on the list. Most companies with a retirement savings plan match your contribution, and that's free money.

"When you have a job, a lot of ethical, spiritual, and philosophical questions are answered for you. The answer to any question about why you do what you do is “because I have to.” You’re free from having to choose between right and wrong, and worrying about the consequences if you make a mistake. You can’t be blamed for anything you do, because it’s not your choice. No one can blame a pawn for protecting the king."

you can do that, but you shouln'd - "i only followed orders" is a very weak excuse. the nazis did that.

we even had a (mandatory) course at the university, covering the question to what extend you're responsible for what you do, even if you're not the one giving the orders. as a webdev, i'd quit if my boss tried to force me to build websites promoting gambling, tobacco, moral- or religious views i don't share or approve - even if they were legal. ok - i'm young and wouldn't have problems getting another job, but still.

and don't say that's a theoretical situation, a have friends and colleagues who had to decide.
